Drainage Service Prevention Tips

How to Prevent Blocked Drain?

Living with blocked drains is not fun, they smell bad, and when left untreated will often result in chronic issues with your home’s plumbing system. However, there are plenty of things you can do to avoid your drainage system from clogging. Here are some of the main causes of blocked pipes, and the steps you can try to keep your drains in good condition so you do not have to resort to calling in a professional drainage service such as Kapa Plumbing & Drainage Service.

Never pour oil or grease down your drains

Oil and grease are big no-no’s when it comes to your drains. And pouring them down your kitchen sink is the best way to ensure your drainage system becomes clogged. Remember just because they slide easily down the plughole, does not mean they are not doing damage.

Whilst your drain is more than capable of handling liquids such as water and milk without any issues, cooking oil and grease are an entirely different story. These tend to set deep within pipes, which in turn will create a solid blockage which is difficult to remove. Other debris such as food and soap will then get stuck behind them, which will result in an even bigger problem.

Even if you are fortunate enough to get away with no blockages in your plumbing system, oil and grease will cause issues further along the pipeline. Many underground sewers are often blocked this way, which can cause problems and inconveniences for the entire neighborhood.

Be careful what you flush down the toilet

Toilet drainage systems are built to handle human waste and toilet paper, however, flushing away other products will quickly result in a blockage. The likes of baby wipes and things like sanitary products are much thicker, and cannot break down in the same way that toilet paper does.
