Clear Your Sewer Cleanouts Every Now and Then

When to Clean Your Plumbing Cleanout

Every urban property, whether commercial or residential, has a sewer lateral. It is the pipe running from the city’s main sewer line to the plumbing on every residential and commercial property. This sewer lateral pipe is responsible for carrying out all of the sewage in every property and transporting them to the city sewage treatment plant. But then, many things can clog drains and pipes. If your home has drain cleanouts, unclogging the drain is easier. Drain cleanouts provide access to your main sewer line and should be cleared if you experience any clogging. Below are some signs that you have to check your plumbing cleanout.

When you have slow draining fixtures

Every homeowner is familiar with slow draining. We’ve all dealt with sink clogs, and everyone of us tried clearing the drain with a stick. Oftentimes, slow draining manifests as a drain that will clear but cannot keep up with the sink. So if you see water building up on your sink as if it were clogged and then slowly lowers down the drain, then you have a slow draining issue. There may be partial blockage in your pipes. Take note that partial blockages are not self-curing and should not be left untreated so as not to develop into a complete blockage.

When you hear gurgling sounds

All drains make a little bit of noise as water runs down smoothly. But keep in mind that your drain is not supposed to gurgle while draining or after the water has gone down the drain. If you hear distant gurgling sounds paired with slow-draining in which the water pressure is higher, then you have to call a professional plumbing service immediately.

When you smell an unpleasant odor

Waste build up and produce sewer gas when the pipes are clogged. Most plumbing fixtures have traps that hold water to prevent dirty air from coming up the pipes, and you are likely to get an unpleasant smell if waste materials fill the traps. If you smell a foul odor coming from your kitchen sink, toilet or shower drain, call a professional right away.
